The Historical Society of Amherst, NH Turns 50!

This season marks 50 years since the formation of our Society in 1957.  We plan on recognizing this milestone in a variety of ways, culminating in a special celebratory party for our June 2008 Meeting and Member Reception.

We're putting a particular emphasis this season on raising awareness of our important mission, hopefully resulting in increased membership.  Here's a preview of what's planned, and in some cases, what we've done!

Members had an opportunity to purchase an annual gift membership at the original 1957 rate of $1.00!  This offer was valid between November 15, 2007 to January 15, 2008.

We created a 2008 Anniversary Calendar featuring archived Amherst photographs, wonderful images of town ephemera, and a list of our Society's Charter Members. We still have several calendars left, and although we're a bit into the 2008 year, the photos are worth the discounted price! Order Form

Available for purchase is this 50th Anniversary Commemorative Coach Ornament. This remembrance of one of our most treasured artifacts will look lovely on your holiday tree, or on display year-round in your home. These ornaments sold briskly during the holiday season, but we have a few left for sale. Order Form

As part of the Congregational Church House Tour on December 8, 2007, an oil portrait from our collection of the Reverend Josiah Davis was on display at the Spalding/Davis house.  Reverend Davis resided at that home for many years, and we've been raising funds for this painting's conservation.  We're happy to report that the painting is now at the conservator's and will hopefully be ready for display at our June meeting.

If anyone has any photos of Amherst from the 1950s and 1960s, or photos of any of our Charter Members listed below, we hope you will either donate them to our Society, or allow us to digitize and return them to you.  It's very important that we continue to develop our image collection.
